Spring is just around the corner and with it comes a new wave of chicks at Johnson Feed Company. We are excited to announce that our first batch of cuties is set to arrive around February 23, 2024. Our team has been working hard to prepare for the arrival of these little ones, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Let’s discuss what types of chicks we offer, when to expect them, and what supplies you’ll need to care for your new fluffy friends.
At Johnson Feed Company, we pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of chicks for our customers. With each delivery, you can expect to find a mix of breeds, including Rhode Island Reds, Easter Eggers, Barred Rocks, and Wyandottes to name a few. We carefully select our chicks from a reputable hatchery to ensure that they are healthy and strong.
As mentioned earlier, we order “pullets” from the hatchery, which means that all our chicks are female. You can see what breeds we are expecting below and the time frame.
Our spring chick orders are typically delivered every two weeks, with the final delivery arriving in mid-April. It is essential to note that the delivery schedule can change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as hatch and shipping delays. We encourage you to stay updated by giving us a call to see the current schedule.
When caring for your new chicks, there are a few essential supplies you will need. First and foremost, you will need a brooder, which is a safe and warm space for your chicks to live in during their first few weeks. The size of the brooder will depend on the number of chicks you have, and we carry different sizes to accommodate your needs. Other supplies you may need include chick starter feeds, waterers, feeders, bedding material, and heat lamps.
